Common questions about
EDDM and direct mail.

EDDM is a USPS program that lets you mail a postcard to every address in a neighborhood — its USPS carrier route. No mailing list required. You pick the ZIP codes and neighborhoods you want to reach; USPS delivers to every household. The postage rate is $0.26/piece, which is significantly lower than First Class mail. L&B handles the printing, bundling, and USPS paperwork included with every order.
EDDM works best for businesses that serve specific neighborhoods: real estate agents farming an area, HVAC companies targeting homeowners, restaurants promoting a grand opening, and home services contractors who want to reach neighbors near active job sites. If your customer is likely a local household, EDDM is the most cost-effective way to reach them.
Industry benchmark: direct mail averages a 4.4% response rate, compared to about 0.12% for email (ANA/DMA Response Rate Report). That would be roughly 44 responses per 1,000 pieces mailed. It's a benchmark, not a promise — your results depend on your offer, your design, and your market. That's exactly why we review every campaign before it goes to press.
No. That's the whole point of EDDM. You select neighborhoods by ZIP code and demographic filter (household income, density). USPS delivers to every address. No names, no addresses to manage. If you want targeted mail to a specific list you provide, that's Standard Direct Mail, which we also offer.
Use our route selector at lbprintinginc.com/eddm/select-routes. You pick a ZIP code and can filter by household income, household density, and age. The tool shows you exactly how many addresses each neighborhood covers before you commit. Most customers start with 1–3 neighborhoods and expand based on results.
No. EDDM requires mailing to every address in a selected neighborhood. This is a USPS requirement, not an L&B policy. You can, however, select which neighborhoods you want to include. The route selector shows you the exact address count so you can budget accordingly.
EDDM's minimum is 200 pieces per mailing — that's a USPS program rule. Most neighborhoods cover 300–600 addresses, well over the minimum, so this rarely comes up. If a neighborhood you want has fewer than 200 addresses, we just add a second one to get you there. EDDM requires mailing every address in a neighborhood (no cherry-picking), which is exactly what keeps postage at $0.26/pc. Our route selector shows the exact address count before you commit.
Pricing has two components: print cost (per piece, based on quantity and paper stock) and USPS postage ($0.26/pc, fixed). Postage is added at checkout. There are no setup fees, design review fees, or bundling fees. The price you see on our pricing page is the print cost only. We show postage separately so you see exactly where your money goes.
Yes. Per-piece print cost decreases as quantity increases. A 500-piece run costs around $0.60/pc in print; a 5,000-piece run drops to around $0.225/pc. See current pricing on the Pricing page or use the route selector. It calculates your exact cost based on the neighborhoods you select.
PDF, 300 DPI, CMYK, with 0.125" bleed. We also accept Illustrator (.ai), InDesign (.indd), and Photoshop (.psd) files. Not sure if your file is print-ready? Upload it and we'll review before charging anything. Our team catches issues before they reach press.
No. The design review is a campaign and file review, not a redesign service. We check that your headline is clear, your offer is compelling, your call-to-action is visible, and your file is technically print-ready. If something is wrong, we'll tell you specifically what to fix. If you need a full design, we offer that separately. Ask for a quote.
Yes. We have industry-specific templates for real estate, HVAC, restaurants, contractors, and more. You can customize them online with your logo, contact info, and photos. Templates are free to use. Just pick, customize, and place your order. Every template order still goes through our campaign review before printing.
Production is 3–5 business days from proof approval. After you drop bundled trays at your Post Office, USPS typically delivers within 3–14 business days depending on your local facility. Plan for 2–3 weeks from order approval to mailboxes. Rush production is available. Call us at (908) 232-7770.
You'll receive a digital proof within 1 business day. Our team reviews your design and contacts you if there are any concerns. Once you approve the proof, we print, bundle by neighborhood, handle the USPS paperwork, and ship your trays to you or your designated Post Office. You drop the trays. USPS handles delivery.
Yes. Call us at (908) 232-7770 to discuss rush options. Rush turnaround depends on current production volume. We'll give you an honest timeline, not a promise we can't keep.
PS Form 3587 is the USPS paperwork required for every EDDM shipment. It documents your neighborhoods, piece counts, and postage payment. L&B completes it for every order. You don't need to know what it is, let alone fill it out. Your trays arrive with all paperwork attached, ready to hand over at the Post Office counter.
No. EDDM Retail (the program L&B uses) does not require a bulk mail permit or postage meter. You pay postage at the Post Office when you drop your trays. We include facing slips and all required labels. Just hand the trays to the clerk.
EDDM trays must be dropped at the Post Office that serves the neighborhoods you selected. Our route selector identifies the correct facility for each neighborhood. We include this information with your order so there's no guesswork.
